EV SUV's
was just granted access to build a Rivian R1S on my reservation.
have to admit, I'm hesitant now, where 10 months ago I probably would have jumped on it immediately and turned in my D5. there are just more BEV SUV options now on the horizon and Rivian has some things I don't like, for example no Android Auto/Car Play for one and a bit more noise, ride roughness and less lux touches than a JLR product for the $. They are also pushing their own dual motors now over the quads from Bosch, with a more limited warranty of 4 years/50K miles vs. 5/60K.
I recently drove a Polestar 2, really liked it and made me think a Polestar 3/Volvo EX90 would be a nice crossover alternative to the D5. The BMW iX was also better than I thought it would be on a test drive, but the high pricing of the M60 gets it close to Full Fat RR territory (I wouldn't get the iX without their 2-axle adaptive air suspension which the M60 has standard). The upcoming Lucid Gravity looks great as well (and I have some colleagues who work there). And frankly, I think people looking for a BEV will be considering a Kia EV9 rather than wait for JLR to bring something to market.
For those who care about EV's, JLR is rapidly falling behind here, with BEV products at least another year out (FFRR $$$$ to be first?). They have some grand EV platforms they've hinted at, but if they don't hit the ground running with BEV's that resonate with people they are going to have some hard going as they lose mindshare.
What do others think about JLR and their BEV future compared to the competition? Do they have time, will 2025/2026 will be the sweet spot and they've timed it right?
(Notice I didn't mention the CT from Tesla, just can't get past the way it looks
)
