Default I think I figured out a way to get a defender into the states

Land Rover Picacho down in Mexico sells Defenders. Now you can't legally purchase one without proof you are living in mexico. But you can rent one and drive it into the states with insurance from a Mexican insurance company. Its completely legal. The US has no issues and no taxes to pay from your home state. All you need to do is set up a rental agency with a Meixican national and do a dummy purchase and rent the vehicle for what you paid for it. 62,000 US dollars. You just have to keep the vehicle insured for about 255 for 300k coverage. Its easy. You can have the rental and no issues from the cops. Sure you have Mexican plates but you can always show them the rental agreement.

Although, this doesn't mean you won't get pulled over all the time because of your Mexican plates. My brother lives in Mexico and when he visits he gets pulled over cause of his mexican plates. Of course the cop just laughs out loud when he comes up to the window and sees two white folks in the car.

Don't waste your time, the Feds are smarter then you, they have seen all the different ways to bring vehicles in and you will get caught and they will impound your vehicle, for ever or until it is 25 years old and even then chances are you won't get it back.

Why? Defenders are massively overpriced (even outside the US) and they don't really do anything better than a Range Rover Classic or Discovery 1 unless you want a 130 or something, but then a real truck is so much better. I mean really, what does it have that a Classic or Disco doesn't have? Body panels and climate control that you can home-make in your barn?

I'm always amazed at the cockeyed enthusiasm displayed by people who WANT a Defender. The risks and borderline felonies they are willing, or at least purport to be willing to commit all to get a TRUCK into the country. I mean really. Aren't there a slew of things to get yourself involved with that are far more important than figuring out a way to illegally import a vehicle into the US?????

I don't understand why the need to commit fraud instead of just buying a legal one that is 25 years old.

The Brits know that we Americans are stupid for paying that much for Defenders....
