Default Kicked in the nuts

So I have been looking for a 98-99 Disco 1 with under 60k miles on it for over four years now and I FINALLY found one the other day! This thing is cherry, no leaks, interior was perfect, even the headliner looked new! I told the lady I was going to buy it, just needed to wait until this Friday so I could get the money, and of course she said she would hold it. I call to confirm the pickup for this Friday and what does she tell me? SHE ALREADY SOLD IT!!! Talk about getting kicked in the nuts! I had so many years of planning and parts saving leading up to this day, and go figure this had to happen.

Pity, but it proves you cannot trust vendors.

You should have placed a deposit entitled 'part payment' specifying when the balance would be paid off and asked for a signed receipt.

Still you'll know the next time.

You want to talk about kicked in the nuts? I had something happen to me, right here, on this forum, that had never happened to me before.

A month or so back someone contacted me directly asking for a part. The part was one that required the entire dismantling of an engine to get to. I told the customer that it would be at least a week to ten days before I would be able to get to his request. We agreed on the time frame and the price for the part.

Now, keep in mind that under ordinary circumstances I may have ultimately pulled that part at my leisure and listed it for sale on eBay. But I've been especially busy this summer with lots of Rovers in for parting and lost of requests so setting a time frame for dismantling an engine to get a part out put me under a certain amount of pressure.

I had a window of time that was open over the weekend after we had reached our agreement. So, I emailed the customer a couple of times to alert him that not only was I dismantling the engine over the weekend but that the part he needed would be ready to ship on Monday, a few days earlier that our initial timeframe had specified.

I emailed him on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with no reply. Finally, on Tuesday the guy emailed me letting me know that he was in the process of purchasing the same part from another seller here on this forum. Not only did I waste a weekend on this jackass but I also lost the sale to someone else here on this forum. Fortunately, I have hundreds, if not thousands of customers after being in business for well over a decade. All it took was a few emails to find another buyer for the part but until I did, I felt like I had been kicked in the nuts by an inconsiderate buyer who used me.
