Default Let's talk about F350 with a V10

So I came across a pretty interesting deal on a a 2001 6.8 liter Crew Cab F350 single rear wheel long bed. The v10 from my reading seems to be a solid motor. Obviously towing capacity isn't a issue lol.

The wife is wanting to be able to tow a horse trailer, I'm wanting to be able to trailer the 110 to rover events in comfort. I think this can do both.

It is a 2wd but that shouldn't be a big deal since I have found out I'm moving to Georgia in a few months. The crew cab is obviously nice for the kiddo and with a cap on the back luggage space is not a issue at all.

In my mind it's a Ford truck which means it will last until it rots out from underneath you. This one has been in Arizona it's whole lift so it is damn clean. What are the gotta watch out for on these trucks. Where is my mind leading me wrong lol.

Default Pistons Kind Of Small

Have a F250 2wd, same cab & bed size with 7.3 PSD that I purchased new. Had driven a 350 at work prior to my purchase that had a solid front axle and ride was terrible. Don't recall if 2 or 4wd but do seem to remember xing 350s off my purchase list when buying due to solid axles of that year even on 2wd.

Obviously any gas engine in that truck will really suck fuel. Have very few issues with mine. Most parts seem to be relatively cheap/available.

My grandfather has had a diesel F350 2wd of the same body since new. He's towed all over the place with it. I've driven it quite a few times and quite like it. I don't know about the gas engine as far as reliability, but I know they've got plenty of power and that gas mileage will be comfortably into the single digits.

Buy an old bluebird schoolbus to go with it, and do a 5.9 cummins swap. Very popular in the superduty fords.

Well I admit I would like the 7.3 PS diesel but not really needed. To be honest the V10 is overkill the F250 with a 5.4 would be plenty for what I'm up to.

It won't be a DD most likely with moving to a warmer climate the MGB will get a lot of use. Need to get that finished though.

So the downside is crap gas mileage?

Well its a moot point the seller couldn't possibly have misrepresented the truck more. To bad i was kind of digging the idea of driving a small semi

My former sandblaster had the V10 in his van, he'd haul 2 "pallets" of sand with the compressor in tow........little to no complaints.....

I had the 7.3 in a 97..............4:10 gears were the killer, towed my 46' trailer awesome at 11mpg with 4:10 gears.......

Downside was.......it still got 11mpg when empty due to gears, and diesel was like $3.95...........As nice as it was, even with the rear converting into a sleeper....IT WAS KILLING ME!.........But, I was hauling a 46' trailer, don't under buy.....suck it up and get yourself home!
