Default The New Bronco

As my beloved Rover is having work done at the body shop, I'm feeling a little guilty eyeing the new Bronco everyday. Red, open top, luscious body....help!!!

Anyone else thinking of adding it to their collection? This color is gorgeous too:

I will be getting a new Bronco next year. I had plans for a new D90 but after all the problems I have read here with the new Defenders, I changed my mind. The Bronco looks great, has tons of options. I don't need a hack saw to install a winch or new front bumper. I doubt it will have half the problems the new Defender has. Just a sweet truck in my opinion.

I wonder what people will be saying about the 2021 Bronco a couple of years from now. Hubby says 'wait a couple of years before buying one'. The price range varies quite a bit with the base model at $28,000 or so. Of course I want the 4 door, roll bar, blah, blah, blah. One part of my head says 'get it!' and the other part faithfully wants to have the Rover restored. There's something about the Bronco body type that sings to me - takes me back to my early twenties.

Nice to hear that others are keeping it in mind! Wish it had a little bit better gas mileage but hey, we're accustomed to that already, right?

Do you realize how nice of a Disco you could make for that kind of cabbage? I get it, Discos are old, the styling is outdated, there's the reliability factor with one you haven't sunk $25k into, etc etc etc.

Try this on for size. This is the reality you will be entering. Ford, JLR, Aston Martin, GM, BMW, Bentley, Maserati, it really doesn't matter. The end result will likely be similar. "Takes you back to your early twenties??" It will take your bank account back to the stone age, and your frustration level to the moon!

https://landroverforums.com/forum/20...eading-107039/

Now take a swig of whichever you prefer, and give your options a real long ponder...

Edit: I predict people won't be saying anything about the 2021 Bronco in 10 years, because everyone who bought that hype will have bought a 2030 Hyundai or Kia by then. The Broncos will be valueless turds with myriads of manufacturing and electronic problems, which relegate most of them to auction houses and used car lots. Or the crusher.

If there was anything the past year and a half has taught me, it is that life is ever changing and nothing should be taken for granted. I lost my job, celebrated both my 50th and 51st birthdays during the pandemic, and then gained employment that was better than my last. During my time off, I had a lot of time to mourn those we had lost, be grateful for my blessings and think about what is important to me at this juncture in my life. That’s the thing about your fifties, they creep up on you – one day you’re fine at 49 and the next you’re staring off into space contemplating your own mortality. You hear stories of colleagues that retire at the age of 67 and pass away 3 months later. You start to think, ‘that’s only 16 years away’. Am I doing this right?

I never thought of myself as one that would have a midlife crisis. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’m going to have one either. What I have realized this past year and a half, however, is that life is way too short to think solely about an investment portfolio 24/7, or how much money I’d be saving if I packed a cheese sandwich and a thermos of coffee rather than stop and treat myself to a deli sandwich or salad along the way. Life is meant to be enjoyed. There has to be a balance.

I have never entertained the thought of purchasing a $50/$60k vehicle. I bought my Rover at an auto dealer for $7900, with a $4000 trade, in 2007…. fourteen years ago. I talked my sister out of buying a new Cadillac two months ago, asking her if she would still feel good driving it after her bank account was depleted. I would much rather invest that $50k into a cottage to build equity and find respite when I need to get away.

I think that is what my husband meant by ‘wait two years’. He figured that prices would come down and if I was truly still interested in the Bronco, I could pick one up used. My comment regarding 10 years merely meant, I wonder what gremlins will be discovered in the Bronco that people will be talking about in 10 years time. My Rover is 21 years old this autumn and we ALL know what shortcomings were found over time.

Stop and smell the roses once in a while. Test drive a Bronco or two. It will make you feel like a kid again

I've been having a "whole life crisis"...mids are for the weak...lol.

I'd assume your husband meant...wait a couple years until the "bugs" are worked out. Most new models have plenty of design/engineering/electrical/manufacturing/assembly flaws.

Of course...he may have already bought you one and doesn't want you ruining his surprise. We'll keep our fingers crossed for the latter.

Mortality...there seems to be no rhyme or reason for who gets what they get. Land Rover summed it up best with "One Life, Live It".

Glad you found a more fulfilling job.

hahaha... you're pretty witty. Yeah, mid life crisis' are for sissies and Land Rover nailed it with their slogan Hope you're enjoying summer and thanks for that, Brian. Job is going well, I actually love it which is awesome. I was down in your neck of the woods 2 weeks ago visiting a couple of sites. One was in Holly - reminded me of Northern Michigan a bit - rolling hills, tree canopied roads and a little lake. Got stuck in a traffic jam on the expressway and ended up pulling off in Grand Blanc - took the back roads back home. I don't know how you guys drive on the expressway at 7:00 am in the morning in pouring down rain. Too much stimulus for my senses.

Believe it or not, hubby bought me a car for my birthday a few years back. An LR3....model

Funny side story...I previously knew of two women in town here that had Disco II's - one I bought a table and chair set from years ago at a garage sale, and the other grew up down the road from me in my childhood (and still lives nearby). TC is fairly small and so you notice when a Disco is parked in someone's drive, or see it on the road, etc. So anyway, I hadn't seen either Disco in their respective driveways for quite some time. The first one - it has been over 2 years (it appeared that they had had replaced it with a LR4), and the last time I saw the second one was in the fall when Trump was in town (assumed replaced with the new Defender that sat in the driveway where the Disco used to sit). Lo and Behold.... this past week, I was driving home and BOTH Discos were back in their respective spots, proudly sitting in their driveways. That made me smile I don't know if they were passed down to their kids or if they were having work done on them, but it's nice to see that they're still on the road and I'm not the only 'nutter' in the area that loves my Rover.

It's the same way in our community here...when you don't see someone post for a while (kind of like not seeing their rover in the driveway thingy)...you wonder if they finally threw in the towel. Was wondering about you the other day, then seen you had "parked your rover" in the music topic, thought, nice Christine is still hanging in there. Been wondering about Richard Fox from Ontario lately, been awful quiet lately. But, hopefully he's just doing what l've tried to start doing...spending less time looking at what other folks are doing, on the net...and doing what l should be doing, living life. Don't get me wrong, the internet is a fine place for staying in touch and meeting folks.

A little story about meeting internet folks and mortality...

Use to hunt ruffed grouse, or as you folks "up there" refer to them ...patridge or pats...with an unparalleled passion. Hung out on several upland hunting blogs and struck up a few relationships with guys of similar mindsets. Yes, l'll admit...l meet men on the internet and on some occasions would get together with them...lol. Lori's fine with it, too,...now, women...l've never tested those waters...lol. Anyhow, meet a gentlemen named Lloyd Smith from PA on a blog, he was about fifteen/twenty years older than l and we'd converse back and forth about bird hunting and bird dogs. Our passion for bird dogs and chasing birds were cut from the same cloth and we both "got something" from our conversation. He enjoyed my stories, because l was still out there 35/40 days a season, running five english setters and on the ground all day shuffling birds around. While his stories were more about the past and what it use to be like in "his neck of the woods", while in his prime days. We would talk about getting together from time to time, since hunting the hills of PA was on my bucket list. So, Lori and l were planning a trip to PA, granted, not a bird hunting trip...anyhow...reached out to Lloyd by email to see if we could meet. Well, the reply received was short and not so sweet...just the words..."Please do not use this email address anymore, Lloyd passed away." Talk about God-smacked, stared at that email for the longest time. Just weird how it hit me, we'd shared so many wonderful conversations over the years and built a special bond...that these 11 words just hit me stifling hard. Wrote a short note in reply to his wife, l assume, expressing my sympathies and mention how much l enjoyed the conversations l'd shared with Lloyd...but it got denied...believe she shutdown his account or something...because it said email address was no longer available. Anyhow, guess my point to all of this is...there is some "worth" to the internet...if you know where to look.

Yes, traffic down here can be maddening at times...me...heading north, away from the city after work...l exhale at 26 mile road...and the next 30 miles home are a stress release. I hate the big road, expressway...and opt for secondary roads 99% of the time.

Just to stay on topic...l heard they will be releasing a full size Bronco. Which, if it has the styling on the small one...could be a hit and better for overland travel.

Glad things are going well for you, take care.

Brian.

I'm still happy with 87-04 LR technology. I can work on it in my driveway, and I know them inside & out. Yes the new 2Dr Bronco looks really nice, but 50K for a 2DR higher end trim level model = INSANE... My 05 Rubicon fully loaded was 23K off the showroom floor. The new car smell is awesome, but the car payment and $$$$ monthly insurance = once again INSANE..... I'd rather drive my classic LR's and fix em as I go. The wife has the new 2020 vehicle, and I have no need for a Bronco when my 5 LR's are already pretty much setup the way I want them.

My wife absolutely loves here 2020 car, but to me I am NOT at all impressed with all the driver assist BS, and stupid electronic fail safes. I was a child of the late 70's and 80's and I survived and I think I'll do just fine with my 87-04 Land Rovers lol. Anything after 2010 = not my cup of tea at all.

I have an early reservation, recently changed my fully loaded Badlands order (with every single constrained commodity lol) to the lowest trim I could spec with the washout floors. Still waiting a year later on a build eta.

i’m also waiting on a D110, damn you covid. The good part is that at least if I don’t like either I can flip them and at least break even given the current used market
