owls and dogs. should I be concerned?

Hi Dusty, no worries. We had owls here some years ago and they were around for a few years. They are ferocious predators at night but mostly small game and certainly wouldn't attack something their own size or even half their size if it is also ferocious. The feral cat population don't seem to have any issues with owls and we hear owls constantly every night from dusk until bedtime (and that's very late in my case often 03.00 am) Most dogs and cats would see off any predatory birds apart from very large hawks and eagles maybe. Bearing in mind most dogs and cats are also hunters and predators in most cases and very aware of their surroundings.
You could always teach the dogs to pack a 12g whilst you pack the Nikon.
