So, How crazy/stupid am I? Haha
My 'new' Disco came as a result of me needing a winter car. The reason I need a winter car is because my Daily Driver is having a load of electrical issues that I need to wait until it is warmer to sort out (2005 Jaguar XJR) The reason I bought that Jaguar is because my LAST DD would over heat at the drop of a hat....1989 Jaguar XJS. So what did I do? I went British for a 3rd time in a row haha. Anyone else just as stubborn or dumb as myself?
You are dedicated. These problems can be overcome. A Discovery can operate very nicely with a 180F thermostat if you are not in the grips of the frozen north. Available for both D1 and D2. Radiators can be flushed, rodded out, replaced. Water pumps can be replaced with better impeller versions. Fan clutch can be replaced or upgraded. Main thing is temp gauge can't be trusted to provide accurate diagnostic info. It is more like a warning light with a pointer.
Thanks, the thermostat was replaced by prior owner, also has new brakes and tires, and I only payed $700 for the beast! haha. I have done a water pump on EVERY car I have ever had within the first few months simply due to failure (with the exception of the XJR) so those seem to be my undoing. But I can change one pretty quick now! haha. As for the frozen grips of the north, it was 10 degrees yesterday, but not year round so I should be fine.
Previous owners are infamous for what short cuts they took. As an example, you could have wrong stat installed, or installed wrong, or no stat at all. The rad can be half full of calcium. The fan clutch can be blown out. The electric fans can be wired reverse polarity. The main fan blade can be mounted reversed. The serpantine belt can be routed wrong. That was just part of the legacy my PO left for me to "Discover".
