Default US 93 Octane Rated Gas Now At $0.60 Gallon Premium Versus Regular?

Early 2000s 93 was still merely $0.10 more per gallon than regular. Since then and over the years increased to $0.40. Since the more recent price declines of crude/gas to a more reasonable level I've now see even more gouging on the 93 prices. Is this just a local Savannah thing or widespread now in the US? Thanks.

Here in WA, we have 87, 89, and 92 octane gasoline. A few years ago, the difference between grades was ten cents, so 92 octane would be twenty cents more per gallon compared to 87 octane.

Just a couple of years ago, I noticed Shell had increased the difference between grades to fifteen cents. Now, it's twenty cents. The other fuel brands have remained at the ten cent difference, though.

Same thing in Maryland, about 50 to 60 cent difference between 87 and 93.

Same thing in central Texas. Regular is down to 1.89 but premium is up at 2.29-2.39. I've noticed that most gas stations are pretty close in gas price of regular but can vary by quite a bit for premium.

Thanks for the replies. Haven't been on any road trips of length lately and had a feeling we weren't only ones taking it from behind. It'd be interesting to know if it's coming from the refiners or retailers and then scalp the guilty parties.

"Because premium-gasoline buyers -- mostly owners of expensive, high-performance cars – are already geared toward paying extra, gas stations feel less pressure to slash those prices as quickly. In this way, the market for gasoline reflects the broader consumer economy: There is some pricing power at the high end, while most retailers are aggressive in catering to the value buyer."
