Imagine getting a patch that says, Master DIYer. Your neighbors and your buddies will be amazed. You will have more information and more knowledge at your fingertips. You can fix stuff on other vehicles as well. Hell, with a big garage you can make a bit on the side. Who wouldn't want to be paid to put on a set of brakes for a neighbor. Or perhaps diagnose an electrical issue and get paid for it. This way your certification and your tools will give you that extra boost to make something off of it.
you know...with the dependence on the "content" that a site with your ideas would have, you better figure out how you are going to get enough quality content to maintain any kind of audience. if it's user generated, ie. "Savanah Does Headgaskets", you'll need incentives and a head judge of sorts to screen it for publishing. i think you have something but it's not going to be easy.

Look at McMaster-Carr.
McMaster Carr is the gold standard when it comes to eCommerce sites.
They are a business to business site, but there's no reason a consumer site can't be as good. It's just that most web site designers are more interested in showing off than providing a good customer experience, and the people who pay them are so clueless they go along with what they are told.

I personally already know most of that stuff, I know how a engine works, I've rebuilt them before.
I was going to be a auto mechanic when I was in high school, I took college prep courses in auto repair for 3 years, each year was a higher level than the last of course.
Grew up and worked on a farm, we fixed everything ourselves.
No that does not make me a expert.
So for me to wade through videos to earn points to move up a notch is a waste of time.
The things I dont know are the electrics and electronics, and who can diagnosis those without the proper machine?
