Why?
I used to take a yearly fishing trip to Canada with my Father.
One day we were pulling the boat out of the water and there were two full-on Canucks fishing from the dock. One guy hooked something and the other guy said in full blown Canadian accent "fish, eh?". My dad and I thought it was funny and it became a running thing.
So that and I used to fish a LOT more(4-5 days a week, tournaments and such) so it was more relevant back when I signed up for most of these forums. Its also not something many people would use so I can have it for fishing, mtn biking, skiing, backpacking, , fishkeeping, and Land Rover forums. One name for all.
So that's why I'm fishEH

So I'm kind of curious about something and you may be able to tell me seeing that you're into fishing and all. Are there guys that like to fish but don't eat fish? I'm not talking about the 'throw back' kind of guy, the one that catches and releases for the sport of it but rather a guy who doesn't eat fish at all... do they exist and if they do, what is the appeal of it? Is it the hunt/challenge?

Typically I don't keep anything I catch around where I live. I like fish but cleaning them is messy and a bit of a pain in the butt. Plus I usually catch bass on lakes that are C & R only, and I stay out till dark so we wouldn't be eating them for dinner anyways.
When I go to BWCA in MN or a fly-in in Canada then I definitely eat fish. Our meal plans count on eating fish at least every other day, usually daily. But those are Walleye's and they're absolutely awesome to eat fresh, especially the cheeks and "wings".
I'm sure there are, probably more so than with hunting. I think there are more fisherman doing it purely for sport than there are hunters. The sport of it is what drew me into fishing vs hunting. I can go out and catch/release as many fish as I possibly can. Hunting is more final and the quotas are small, so I think hunters do it as much for the meat as they do for the sport.
other hand we have a butt ton of sport hunters around here.....That I don't get, so much. I have met guys that deer hunt, only for the trophy. they don't eat venison, they put the heads on their walls, put stickers on their trucks and all that. seems needless taking of life imo. minus nuisance/varmint hunting, I don't see the point. seems disrespectful. If i plan to provide food for the fam, I take a gun. if I want a trophy, I take a camera. but to each his own.
Geeze Im gone for a few days an look what happens.
Slabrat is a name I was given when much younger. I went rock climbing and caving every chance I got. Nobody calls me that much anymore but it works on here.
My real name is Tom or Tommy or Thomas How boring is that ??
Being in engineering most my life and enjoying science. I kinda of feel like if someone believes that the earth is only 2000 years old they aren't looking at the facts.
Never met a man named Dusty unless his last name was Rhodes

... Paul Grant..and here I thought the Antichrist was just a cold cold individual but he really does have a heart. I looked it up on youtube last night and I am now enlightened. Thank you.
...Fisheh... thank you for the clarification on 'catch and release'
I have to add that based on your handle my name should be 'is_my_mascara_runnin'_mama?' as that is a favorite saying in our family. When I was sixteen we drove out to Colorado for my Uncle's wedding (3rd?) and stopped in a small town named Monarch (after traveling thru the pass) for the night. We decided to take a soak in the Jacuzzi outside. A woman and her daughter were in the Jacuzzi with us and the daughter asked her mother ever so innocently 'is my mascara runnin' mama?' in a thick southern accent. Terrible to say but my sister and I started laughing so hard we dove under water and the phrase has stuck with us ever since. Maybe I should start using it as my handle? lol...
...Dusty.. I am you and you are me... we think the same way, although you're going to hell apparently
... and Slabrat? - good of you to join us. An engineer eh? What can I say... what can I SAY? I didn't say that the earth is only 2000 years old. I implied that it was created by something bigger than all of us. I don't know how, what or why but it's not just black and white
Your name suits you.
If any of you adventurers are interested in a good read that combines adventure with the theory of evolution, the book 'The River that Flows Uphill: A Journey from the Big Bang to the Big Brain' by William Calvin is a must. I took the author out for lunch in the late 80's, a nice gentleman and quite the story.

Like all your stories! You a bunch of funny guys out there!
As for myself I use some different Nicks, here, and in other LR Forums too, i made it simple; rangeandy as in Andy who drives a Range Rover.
BTW, I love to fish too, deep sea, as I used to live some years in northern Mexico, we kept what we could eat the same day, did some C&R and then heading back home. Never kill an animal for nothing, and never kill a gamefish.
Keep going
Andy

That is where I have trouble with Religions.. One can believe whatever some one else says or makes up . Some folks think the earth is 2000 yrs old. (Maybe not so much you Landlover) but Some folks in Kansas are teaching kids that dinosaurs and man co-existed in the last 2000 years. Didn't happen.
Some folks just make up stuff to suit them. That is not faith. That just serves them and whatever agenda they are pushing
I'm not saying people shouldn't have faith of some kind, but maybe evolution is part of the process of creation?? ( I made that up to suit me) LOL
Ok I am sorry, never talk religion or politics.
Can't work on the Rover till it warms up, anybody else have that problem?? I'm getting cabin fever I think.
Offroad maybe I'll see you in France this summer maybe we can discuss atheism.
Can't bring my rover with me though.
