The "New" Discovery
Looks simply fantastic, and the engine options are quite nice. Land Rover really surprised me with how non "shopping mall suv" they seemingly want to portray with this ride.
Anyone else excited?

I dont like the new facelift at all. Discovery 3 front end was pretty bad then they fixed it alittle on Discovery 4 - now back to horrible. sighs. Spend less time of minor cosmetic changes (facelifts) and more time on quality, all round capability and reliability and the company would have a better reputation. I love LR dearly but sometimes I really think they lost their marbles. Especially when they now want to retire the Defender. Land Rover ownership needs to be returned to the Brits, specifically to those who still value utilitarian and reliability more so than luxury and cosmetic appeal. The original Series Rovers were built as workhorses for the average people, the hard working people. They were built to surpass Jeep but still be affordable to the average wage people. Sadly in this day in age only people on the top of society with big fat wallets can afford these vehicles and any notion of "workhorse" has been discarded and replaced with luxury. Might as well slap on a Mercedes badge and take out the permanent four wheel drive feature while your at it LR!

Mercedes is at least smart enough to continue the unimog and vans and such
If this is the new one with the jag engine, topgear UK looked to me to be unimpressive, priced 27k# and severely under powered in diesel version or buy the gas guzzler v8 (probly 100k in us and only the v8) handled body roll better then previous but if you load up the 7 people it holds there is no cargo room lots of dodads inside to inlude giving rear passenger control over the radio? and it can climb a Scottish hill off road if you attach a winch and bring people to dig it out oh and grab the trim that fell off lol, it weighs 2.5 tons ouch and has a dual chasis?
Definitely not something I would trailride with

Guys hang on to your Disco 1"s and Disco 11"s they are going to become really sought after
. LR missed the boat by not making a pick-up version of these 2 brilliant trucks. I luv my 2 Series 11A trucks and I am trying to convince the finance manager at home to allow me a Disco 1 or 11
. This is not working so far

Maybe I just find a D1 or D2 with a bad motor and buy it
. Then live with the flak
of you now have 3 Land Rovers
. When are you going to drive them all
As long as there is no rust in the truck i will live with the flak cause she WILL ride in that one
. She says the other 68 and 69 Series 11A trucks stink and are noisy but I do get her to sometimes ride in them.

The best thing about the Discovery is that's it has no aesthetic appeal. It's not really ugly, but it was never pretty. Mine's free of anything but very minor body damage, but it's not what I consider a good looking car. I can understand making a Range Rover look good. I mean, it's a status icon thing, but a Discovery is nothing.
When I look at the 2014, it just looks like an older Ford Escape. Most of the SUV's have gone to the egg-shaped crossover style like the Evoque which I hate.
I actually like the Range Rover Sport looks the best of current models (prior to 2014). It looks the most like and is closest in size to a 1970 Range Rover. But they evoqued it for 2014 so now the door line is swept up and the roof line swept down. They used to be level and parallel. So only the full size Range Rover looks good anymore.

A Land Rover should have tall side windows with low sills, preferably taller than they are wide. The high sills on the Series/Defenders are one of their worst features. The 1970 Range Rover nailed it.
Nowadays, everything has these useless little squat windows and super wide C and D pillars. They're useless, and people are just looking at their phone instead of out the window.
