2013 Transmission Fault... No start just two clicks. P0A91-68 GSMB Code
Hi Everyone,
Got an issue I can't figure out on my wife's evoque. Came home after driving it, turned it off everything was fine and then went to start it 30 min later and got nothing. No crank, just two clicks and on the dash I got the "Transmission Fault" error. Here is what I have done so far...
1) I thought it was the starter, so I replaced that with a new one. Same issue
2) Hooked up my Autel MK808BT and scanned. Gave me a bunch of codes... and knowing how these cars are with weak batteries I proceeded to step 3.
3) replaced the main battery and the auxillary battery (under the glove box). That eliminated almost codes and I continue to get a P0A91-68 code. Even after I clear the TCM and GSM codes. They will show cleared, and then after I try and start the car, i get the two clicks and then re-scan which produces the GSMB error.
4) Based off that error it tells me that it could be wiring or TCM related. I have replaced the starter before and battery, which worked the first time, and had no issues with anything.
5) I let the battery sit overnight disconnected to clear everything, and that didn't help.
6) On the Autel scanner, I ran the TCM calibration, which successfully completed. Still not starting and get the Transmission Fault error on the dash with a GSMB fault on the scanner.
A) The only two plugs I disconnected was the big one that sits in front of the starter, and the air intake sensor. I also checked the pins and sprayed crc cleaner on them. No corrosion on anything.
So at this point, i'm stumped as to what the issue could be. Could be be the main engine harness itself? I hope not because that's $900.
I attached all the ECU and Live data from my scanner on the TCM and GSMB. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for any help!
Under the glove box there's a cover for the fuse box, remove the cover and you will find a backup battery as per pix.
If it goes faulty and wont charge all sorts of errors appear, one of them is a gear box fault error. Good Luck
I tested relays last night.. all are fine. I;m picking up the Fusible Link from the dealership today to test. There is a ground or open circuit somewhere i think causing the issue. Will update further today.
The double click you're hearing is the relay operating to send the 12v to the starter motor. Get a multimeter and place the positive (red) lead on the starter + terminal and the negative on any body or earth point. Now have someone press the starter button inside the car while you monitor the voltage on the starter + terninal, if the 12v is missing - there's your problem. Power is derived from the battery through the fusable link to the relay then to the + terminal on the starter. Any break in the chain and you will only hear the double click
and nothing else. A simple resistance check across the fusable link will show you if its gone open circuit it should read infinity if it's faulty and less than 1 ohm if ok.
Happy hunting

Ok, checked the starter and got 0v when the start button is pressed.. Fusible link replacement should be here tomorrow and hopefully that does the trick!

Go back and check the plugs you pulled apart and make sure they are seated correctly you could have overlooked something. The fusable link can be checked with a multimeter if it has gone open circuit (meaning no reading on the multimeter at all on the resistance setting). Do a resistance check from the body of the starter motor to chassis to see if the ground is ok should read less than 1 ohm.
Do you have a wiring diagram of your car??
Is the Evoque manual or auto ? Diesel or petrol ?.
If it's an auto the gear selector **** should be on P if not it wont start !!!
To release and raise the gear **** push the start button to turn on the ignition only and now hold down brake pedal and the + paddle on the steering wheel for 20 sec the selector will raise and you can reset it to park.
Do a voltage check from the battery through the fusable link to the relay there should be 12v constantly **** when the starter button is pressed the other side of the relay now has 12v which goes to the solenoid on the starter motor there should be 12v at those points to crank the starter. People tend to overlook the most obvious of faults
