Default 2004 4.4 - Timing Chain?

Hello - First post on this Forum.... Have a 2004 Range Rover HSE with 148k miles - Its a project vehicle I have had for about a year and my first Rover.... I have since purchased a second one (2010) and looking at a third... i understand now when i was told Land Rover ownership is a sickness... LOL

My question - the 2004 now has a loud rattle when starting it for 2 seconds to so.... then its fine although from time to time while driving i feel/hear a rubbing noise for a few seconds that seems to go away when i gas or lay off the gas. Not sure if both are part of the same issue. I am assuming the rattle at start is a timing chain or guided since I know the 4.4 BMW VANOS motor is prone to timing issues....

I am planning on pulling it apart and replacing the chains/guides and VANOS solenoids - have the kit and tools already. Just figured i would ask the forum if the issue(s) i have seems to point to the timing chain.
