2006 One-Year-Only Parts?
Hi.
I recently acquired a 2006 Range Rover Supercharged with a non-working transmission. It doesn't go into fourth gear. There's plenty of documentation on the ZF 6-speed, so I feel confident in rebuilding or replacing the ZF transmission, and if I do have to replace it, I'll be all-in for $3K to get this thing running (including the price of the car itself). So I thought it was a good deal. It'll be a good ride for that investment, especially as the air suspension isn't acting up (unlike my 2004 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas, whose air suspension is on the fritz).
My question is regarding the 2006-model-year specifically. I've heard that it's a "one-year bastard-child." And I can kind of see that it's a transitional year. They swapped some stuff (the engines, the transmissions, the front and rear fascias, the instrument cluster, the infotainment system), but waited until 2007 to do other upgrades (the dashboard, the key fob, the center console...)
But are there any functional parts/modules that are unique to the 2006 (and not used on the 2003-2005 or 2007-2009)? Anything I need to be worried about here?

IF I remember correctly... you'll just be split between ordering parts for the BMW half and the Jag half. They didn't make unique parts for it. Just like you said, it was a transition year. The transmissions aren't too bad to repair depending on how far gone they are. Most of the 5HP and 6HP trans issues I've seen are from clogged filters from the "lifetime" fluid.
Thanks. The transmission turned out to just be done for, so it's been replaced. Even when the new one was installed, it wouldn't go past fourth gear. It turned out that only one tire (the front right one) was the correct size, while the other three were not. I imagine the front right wheel was the spare, as it's missing from the cargohold, and at one point, all four tires were the wrong size, but at least they were the same size. Since the car was sensing a difference in speed at all times, it assumed I was turning and wouldn't upshift. That solved it.
