L322 5.0 SC Overheating
Ok, new to me Rover; went into overheat, sent to mechanic, diagnosed with a cracked thermostat housing. Housing replaced, just picked it up drove fine home, pulled into drive and was sitting at idle w AC on answering calls on the phone when it went into overheat again. I shut it down and popped the hood to see the overflow bottle full and leaked fluid on the ground.
The mechanic did tell me when i picked it up that they had found stop leak in it and had flushed the system extensively, and that it should not pose an issue going forward. Could this be an issue?
The car also does not have any fan faults or other DTC's. Mech checked and I checked with my scanner when I got home.
I am confused to no end. Any ideas will be greatly considered. (After it cools, I will try to fire it up and see if it runs to hot again; if it does, then back to the mech as the repair has a two year warranty).

That's my fear. The first over heat, I shut it down ASAP and towed, this one I shut it down ASAP. I am hoping this is an air pocket, but I am not super hopeful at this point. I DO have an extended warranty that covers that engine and components (fingers crossed).
I am fairly mechanical, I rebuild old tractors as a hobby (Fords, so I am well versed in Lucas Electrics). I have talked to the mech and he is ready to receive it back if needed.
Ok! overheating issues solved with new thermostat housing and new hoses coupled with purging the air from the system (also found that someone had put stop leak in the system).. Then started getting reduced performance warnings along with rough running and over rich exhaust smell.
Shop got into the coils and plugs and found that half were mismatched and not seated completely. Also got codes for fuel pump. Yeesh.
Luckily the warranty I purchased is covering the fuel pump and coils, I will have to spring for the new plugs. I'll take that.

Resurrecting this thread as a follow up to the SC overheating issue.
Turns out, I had a bad head gasket along with the coolant line issues (one may have lead to another). I used the remainder of the $5K "warranty" plus some of my cash and some from the dealer I bought the car from to do the head job (about 6K in total). While the mechanic was in there, he went ahead and replaced the timing chain guides, so that possible failure is fixed.
All of this happened between May and July of last year, so here we are a year on and the report is she runs fine!
I am now rolling up on my next service interval and I couldn't be more pleased with the performance and comfort this ride has.
