Default Replacing transmission ECU

So, i own L320 4.2 SC. My transmission eventually came to the point of "major repair". Transmission box itself is fine and will be good in a week. But guys from the car shop reporting ECU (mechatronic, black plastic unit on the valve body) to be dead and in need of replacement (they won't give warranty on anything without it to be replaced).
From what i see on local websites, it's nowhere to find. There is a way to get completely new one, but at 1\5 price of the car itself.
From what guys say, it's not replaceable by ECU from other cars (BMW, Audi). Either because of the form, or because "Land Rover demanded it to have specific firmware" so it can only be replaced by other RR gearbox.
I consider looking for a whole used transmission as a donor and just tearing ECU from it.
I'm perplexed a bit. What options do i have?
