Timing chains/guides on the BMW V8?
I'm mostly an LR3 person but someone in my catchment area has a early L322 with a BMW engine that needs as reported "timing chains and a water pump"
They're asking $750 and sending it to the scrapper at the end of month. Since I do like a hopeless Rover challenge, my DD is a LR3 I paid $500 for and nursed back to health, how much trouble is it to relace timing guides and chains in the BMW engine? And maybe more importantly, does "needing a water pump" really mean it's popped the head gaskets and now it's an even bigger job?
I've worked on L322's for a freind of ours, had a nice drive in one, love the platform in some ways better than the LR3. Other ways? Well I can load up a LR3 like a rented mule
. I also have a Gap diagnostic tool which is pretty much the gold standard to keep a Rover alive. Buuuutttt does it know the BMW engine?
I'll be doing some other research but would like to hear what you all have to say.
