Hello, all!

I figured I’d join the forum to partake in some discourse regarding Land Rover/Range Rover.

First & foremost, I’d like to start by saying that I know very little about Land Rovers. I know so little, that I don’t even understand the difference between Land Rover/Range Rover (sorry for my ignorance). The only thing I really know about them is that they seem to have a horrible reputation in the auto industry for being notoriously unreliable. This however, has not discouraged my interest in the brand.

I have always loved the look of these cars, the performance, and the rugged capabilities they possess. I truly fell in love with them when I had the opportunity to drive my cousin’s Land Rover Range Rover some years ago off road. I distinctly remember the way the car handled off road, the smoothness of the ride, and the effortless delivery of power from the V8 engine.

I currently own a pre-owned 2015 Jaguar F-Type R which will be paid off in the next couple of years. I fully intend on keeping this vehicle for as long as I possibly can. Once it is paid off, I would love to look into getting a Land Rover/Range Rover, but my only reservation is the stigma behind these vehicles.

Just how unreliable are these vehicles? Are they so unreliable that it leaves you stranded on the side of the road? Is it so unreliable that you have it in the shop every other month? I’ve been very diligent on maintaining my F-Type which (luckily) has been decently reliable despite being high maintenance.

I do not know which LR/RR model I would like to pursue, as I do like most of the models. Therefore, I call on all current owners of these beautiful SUVs to inform me on the brand. Just how awful are these car? Just how great are they? Is there merit to the unreliable reputation, or is this something that has been greatly exaggerated over the course of time?

Thank you for reading & taking the time to answer my post!

The stigma is just that. As long as you keep up with the maintenance on these vehicles, you will enjoy trouble free driving. You have posted your inquiry in the L405 forum, which is the 4th generation full size Range Rover. Is that the vehicle you are interested in? If it is, I would recommend getting a 2018-2022 year Range Rover. Getting a certified Range Rover will give you the peace of mind, should any warranty issues arise. Range Rovers have been very reliable in my experience owning them since 1982.
Remember, these vehicles are extremely complicated, but they are the best of the best when you maintained them regularly. Good luck.

Thanks for the response! Honestly, there are many models I like, but I posted here because this the model that comes to mind when I think about Range Rovers.

I really like the LR Defender & the RR Velar as well.

I also own a Defender which is an amazing vehicle and has been very reliable. I have driven the Velar when provided by the dealer as a loaner. Most Land Rover vehicles share the same engines and are pretty reliable. Maintenance is off course the key word....
