Fuel Filter conundrum
I recently bought a 2001 Range Rover 4.6 SE. It was claimed as inoperable when I bought it. I figured clean out the fuel tank, replace the battery, check a lot of things and start it if I can. In the process I dropped the fuel tank, drained it, replaced the levelsensor/pump, connected the air pump. It should be ready to run. The previous owner said it had been sitting 7 years. Then I thought - really should also replace the fuel filter. I bought a filter. I looked up videos, my range rover does not have a filter in the location indicated, and there is no sign that the stock filter fits anywhere. There is a covered area with two units of something - each square-ish - and one looks like it has two fuel lines attached to it - but I can't remove it or the lines. I have a shop manual. It doesn't show this...it shows just a filter there alongside the air tank for the suspension (which was replaced with springs by a previous owner). That's not what is in the car, and it all looks standard. Can anyone shed some light here?

It sounds to me like there is no filter - other than a sock on the in tank fuel pump itself. I've been working on cars since I was 8 - that's a long time - and I can't imagine designing a fuel injection system for a vehicle without a fuel filter - but I guess that's what was done. If anyone can shed some light on a filter, let me know.
You are correct. On the 1999+ vehicles there was no external fuel filter.
I'm interested to see how you make out. This 'revival' threads are always fun and educational.
The manuals can be found in the google drive linked in my signature. The manuals for the pre-99 and 99+ vehicles are slightly different.
Also, if you are gonna tackle a P38, you should be familiar with rangerovers.net . The P38 section is quite strong and the participants quite knowledgeable.
