Default HVAC Blend motor replacement

After countless hours of research and videos I still haven't come to the conclusion as to HOW I'm supposed to remove the LH blend motor. I can see it after removing the instrument cluster and know I have to remove the bracket but not sure what to do with the pipes.

The horizontal pipe that runs to the far LH vent seems to want to come out but is screwed into the dash at the top. With that out, I could probably get the pie that runs to the rear vents.

I'm also trying to figure out what the plastic piece sticking up from the top of the motor is. I assume it's connected to the actual blend door but should it have any play? Perhaps it's stuck? Anyway, attached are pictures showing the LH motor since I couldn't find any decent ones in my research.

BTW its a 2002 p38 w/ 140000k miles

I haven’t done that particular job, but (assuming you’re talking about the black heater duct) I I have cut those ducts for access and reassembled them with gorilla tape with good success.

That's what I was thinking. I'll probably have to cut the vertical duct. What did you use? I don't think I could fit anything larger than a dremmel.

I used a hacksaw blade with tape wrapped around the end to save my hand.
