Replacement Key Fob
Just thought I'd run this past the group in case anyone has first hand knowledge... Key fob was lost, New fobs are no longer available from dealer. All of the older info regarding syncing new fobs indicates that a used fob cannot be synced to a different vehicle due to the key sets being matched to the ingnition with an encrypted code.
There is company online selling used fobs for $333.00.
https://www.keylessremotewarehouse.c...dro_c_p112.htm
When I did talk to the dealer to confirm that FOB's are NLA he looked in the P38 service manual and found this procedure for syncing a new fob:
1. Exit Vehicle.
2. Lock Doors Using Key (Key Must Be Removed Within 5 Seconds)
3. Push New Remote Button 3 Times (Must Be Done Within 5 Seconds Of Removing Key/During Rapid LED Blink Period).
4. Lights Should Flash To Indicate Acceptance Of New Remote.
It is possible that the OEM service manual assumed that the key being synced was ordered specifically to match the vehicle using the VIN but they guy (dealer parts counter) swore a used fob from another vehicle would work. I understand the used FOB would not have the matching blade until that was properly cut... So one would have to lock the vehicle with the proper working key and possibly that lets the fob sync???
I've read up on several forums as I mentioned and none mention this. Some mention the EKA procedure, others mention using BECM connected devices... Some mention a coil in the fob and one in the ignition barrel that can be activated with the key in the ignition and pressing the lock/unlock buttons...
I'd like to hear more before spending $300 on a key... Any experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure if you purchased that key but here are my thoughts:
The guy at the dealer is not correct. Each BeCM has a specific fob code programed into it. The fob has to have this same code as well. Yes they both have to by synched if you unplug the battery from the P38 or replace the battery for the fob but that is to get them back in synch. You can't take one remote from one P38 and synch it with another one.
Here is the only place that can replace 315 mhz keys (USA)

I have one from them and it works great.
I suggest contacting them via email and ask for Les. He knows what he is doing when it comes to BeCM's and fobs.

Yes, when I got mine I had my BeCM unlocked by another company a year earlier. That company had given me the Fob code so when I ordered it from Classic Rides it was easy for them to make.
It still is worth it even if you need to send them your BeCM. They can turn on the EKA option, give it a code. You will rest better having a working fob that turns off the alarm if it goes off.
