What year do you recommend?
Been looking seriously at the sport model in years 2008-2013. What’s the consensus about these years in terms of reliability and overall satisfaction? This is a car my family will use around town mostly. I’ll do a fair share of repairs myself with the help of the forum and I don’t want to get into a year known to be plagued by problems and flaws that I could avoid. Appreciate your sage advice as owners.
The 5.0 has some well documented costly issues. They are also fragile. One overheat and the engine is generally toast. For example timing issues and High Pressure fuel pumps are two costly common issues.

Now that’s the kind of information from experience owner that really would save me a lot of heart ache so what year of cars are the best for a RR between say 2005 and 2013? Any car I can afford will likely need to have about 90k mileage.
06-09 is the 4.4/4.2 Jag motors.
If you can find a 5.0 powered one that has religious maintenance records, and the big ticket items checked off it would still be a fine choice. Just understand that you need to stay on top of the maintenance to. These trucks respond well when maintained. They don't care for neglect.

I’m pretty handy but I have zero experience working on land rovers obviously I get the sense that most of the complaints about reliability have to do with switches and displays as well as the airbag suspension I don’t hear a lot about engine problems am I mistaken?

The 5.0 engines had timing chain tensioner and guide issues up until '13 or '14 depending on who you ask. If you could find a 2010 or newer model that's already had the updated tensioners and guides installed you would have less to worry about. Also some folks have reported various cooling system failures with overheating while the gauge reported normal temps, causing owners to drive until the point of engine damage because they were unaware of the overheating.
