Restricted Performance/Oil Leak
Hello all,
First post here on this site. Forgive me if this is not the correct place. I own a 2016 L494 SE equipped with the TDv6 3.0 Turbo diesel. currently 170,000 miles. All was well and was enjoying the vehicle until one morning I took off for work and a "Restricted Performance" light popped up on the dash followed by loss of power and smoke coming from the engine from burnt oil. This happened several times. I added oil each time. I noticed a pattern. If I let the vehicle idle and warm up, there would be absolutely no issue. but if the vehicle did not warm up to complete operating temp. The issue happened every time. there would be a lot of smoke. I mean a lot of smoke, so bad it would make it hard to breathe in the cab and probably a half quart or more of oil lost every time this has happened. If I turned the vehicle off, and then started it back, the light would go away and the vehicle ran perfectly fine. I tested the warm up theory for 2 weeks straight. Every day I left the house for work, I let the vehicle warm up completely before pulling out. No issues at all. Then one morning I let it get half way to Op temp and sure enough. Same issue. After hours of research, I come to the conclusion that my DPF was clogging up. So I had the vehicle tuned and deleted by Velocity AP. No longer any DPF, DEF or EGR. This fixed the issue for 3-4 days. Then the same exact issue comes back again. Maybe even a bit worse. My next culprit is something to do with the turbos. possibly bad seals, bad actuator or waste gate. What is odd to me is if I let the engine warm up completely, it runs perfectly fine even on long trips. But if the temp is barely under the middle line and you pull out and reach 55mph, it has the same issue. All I can figure is whatever is causing the issue is gummed up and the heat from the engine frees it up enough not to cause an issue. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. The vehicle has under and over boost codes only when the restricted performance light is on.
Thanks,
-Michael
