Range Rover Velar black exterior trim fading / speckling issue
G’day team, nice to meet you all.
I’m on a bit of a fact-finding exercise.
Has anyone experienced premature fading, speckling, clouding or deterioration of the black exterior trim on a Range Rover Velar?
I’m dealing with this on a near-new, lightly used and well cared for Velar. The affected areas include multiple exposed black exterior trim components. JLR has declined the claim on the basis of “outside influence”, but so far no specific product, exposure, cause or supporting evidence has been identified.
I’m trying to understand whether this is an isolated issue or something other Velar / Range Rover owners have experienced, particularly with gloss black exterior trim, A-pillars, spoiler trim, mirror surrounds or other exposed black trim.
I’m based in Sydney, Australia, so I’m wondering whether it could be material or coating degradation linked to harsh UV exposure, as the issue appears to be limited to the exposed trim.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had something similar, especially:
• Model year and mileage
• Which trim pieces were affected
• Whether the car was under warranty
• What JLR / the dealer said
• Whether it was replaced under warranty or declined
• Any photos, if you’re comfortable sharing
I’m not looking to make accusations. I’m just trying to gather owner experiences and understand whether this points to a broader material, coating or durability issue rather than an unexplained external influence.
