2002 4.0 Shortblock 150k - needs boring
2002 4.0 shortblock needing rebuilding. This one had a hg blown to the exterior (water jacket to exterior at engine front) and the engine was pulled because of transmission problems. Before I pulled it I checked the oil pressure to see if it was worth rebuilding (it still ran) and it showed normal oil pressure (I may still have the video somewhere that I made). Once I had it out I noticed #8 cylinder had some cylinder wall scuffing that looked pretty significant, so I pulled the piston and CR out of that cylinder. 2nd ring was broken, top ring had .040 end gap, oil rings were collapsed. Piston skirt to cylinder wall clearance measure .008, piston does not look that bad/worn so my guess is it is the cylinder mostly. Crank journal measures 2.182 and looks relatively smooth. Rod bearing looked normal but worn obviously. Looking down in the block there is obvious calcium buildup in the water jacket, so block would need to be hot tanked to get that out. Truck has 150k on it and by all appearances engine had never been out. I am pretty confident it could be bored or resleeved if someone was so inclined.
Heads and pushrods not included. I can provide photos of any components desired in anyone is interested. Looks like the oil pump/front cover is worth about $75 and the oil pan is worth about $65 on ebay, so I will offer the entire assembly for $225. Located in Lynchburg VA, can crate and ship relatively easily, you pay freight cost. I will leave it on here about a week before the pieces go on ebay.
