2002 Land Rover Discovery Kalahari FOR SALE $8500
#54
( This coming from a "mundane" D2 owner, who only managed to spend time tooling around in Arizona driving the new Range Rover and LR3/LR4 with Land Rover UK representatives, but what do I know? )

Your mistake was coming onto an active forum and declaring that your vehicle is better than all ours and that our vehicles are a piece of ****. I'd like to see Spikes thoughts on that consider his daily driver is a 1997 Disco 1 with 220,000 and still running strong with original heads!
The members here are somewhat tight nit and very passionate about their vehicles (myself included). Some of the members here are former Land Rover techs managers etc. Some of them have been restoreing Rovers for many years. Some have owned almost every model in the Land Rover lineup. And a lot of us are DIY people who enjoy taking these vehicles offroad. We know our trucks and we love them. So When somebody comes on as a newbie and tries selling us bull**** then bet your *** their will be a problem. We don't care who you are, or where you come from, don't care what you do for work nor how many years you've been a mechanic. You lack selling skills and you pretty much broke all the golden rules regarding selling a Rover as mentioned above: over priced, no pics, exaggeration of price paid for parts, threats, bad attitude to constructive critisim etc.
Good luck with the sale, hope someone is dumb enough to pay you that much for a 2002 with 160k - keep in mind the early model LR3's are dripping down in price and you can find one with luck for under $11,000!

I am going to address some of the points that you fine Rover aficionados have leveled against me...
1. Pre 2002 Rovers did indeed come with the nipple for engaging the CDL. What person in their right mind would crawl under a vehicle in mud,dirt,etc....to wrench on a invisible nipple right next to hot exhaust and cats? I have yet to find myself in any situation that required putting on a bunny suit and asbestos gloves to engage a CDL.
2. Overinflated prices on mods. I have safari guard rock sliders. New coil springs. New SS brake lines. New serviceable drive shaft. New Bilstein remote reservoir shocks. New ABS extensions. New pan hard rod. New watts linkage...shipping,tax, installation. Do the Math.
3. Threats???? Seriously? To whom....? You D1 boys are a smidgeon thin skinned and easily butt hurt.
4. Pricing. Decals. All that nonsense. How much exactly is a well equipped D2 Kalahari worth in your minds? I have looked at quite a few markets to get a representative price of used Discos. There is not one that is halfway decent that sells for less than 4500. You don't think that the value of this truck will stay put compared to all the other Discos that are not yellow. Do not say specialty vehicles. Do not have the fancy green oval sticker. And most of all it is one of 150 in the WORLD. That is some rarified air Landy's suck it in and exhale.
Fact. In some unspecified amount of time my Kalahari will hold its value compared to other similar non-kalaharis. Some folks enjoy exclusivity. Think 911 RS versus 911S.
5. What idiot would drive an 11K LR3??? Sure there are great trucks. Arguably better in many ways than a D2. Last time I checked that don't do anything better than a D2 except pamper the douchbag driving it, and cost more to maintain. Oh wait....I can be just like my next door neighbor and drive an identical car. OOOOOWEEEE sign me up for that. I have yet to once ever see another Kalahari in all my on and off road miles. Sip on that fine gin....
6. I have hopefully brought a grin to your faces which is half the fun right? Perhaps you people need to not take things quite so seriously. Put a little salt on it for gods sake. I have pretty high standards when it comes to bragging about ****. If I declare that my metaphorical Rover ***** is 10 inches than you can damn well bet that I can back it up.
Continue licking my well lubed ball joints and for petes sake take a bong hit and buy a Toyota. Until next time.....Ciao.

One last thing...
with regard to some of you being ex mechanics....
To be brutally honest I have known many mechanics. I am a mechanic. I have an A&P license. There are about five people I have met in my life that I actually admire as qualified experts with regard to all things mechanical. I strive to learn from and emulate those five people. The rest of the lot are all hacks. The vast majority of dealer wrenches are absolute crap...be it Volvo,BMW,Toyota, Porsche....to those folks it is just a job. I would not trust 90% of most mechanics to sharpen my lawn mower blade. You people put your butts in the seat of a helicopter pulling wire over some rocky canyon....when one of those 5,000 parts decide to quit working because some hack mechanic did not give a hoot to double check his work....it's go time. Like go meet your maker tiempo. I hold myself to the same standards that I expect my Helicopter wrenches to when they work on my aircraft. How many of you desk jockeys really go the extra mile to make damn sure all your bits are in order? Granted a failure of a component in a Rover is not exactly life threatening...but it sure as hell is a major inconvenience and requires a call to mommy saying you will be home later than expected. Not to mention you will have to call on a guy like me to come over and bail you out of a foreseeable and preventable silly situation.
Nuff said. Too bad Rovers do not have more ball joints....you will have to take turns licking them.
That my dear friends is my finale....BTW I have several offers of over 8K.

is this truck still for sale? I was about to make an offer on a $500 D1 in Boston but the guy sold it before I could PayPal him. Is the OP still willing to take offers? I have $500 at the ready and need a rig.
