Well ****! If that's the case I have a build D1 for $7500, forum discount! 4k worth of lift, 6k worth of axles, gears and lockers, 4k in the bumper and rack....you know, retail plus 100 bucks an hour to install. LOL

With $8,500 you almost have enough for a 2004 Range Rover HSE among other vehicles as noted below. And you might be shocked just how easily you can find a well maintained Discovery 2 online for cheap:

2004 Range Rover:
Ranger Rover HSE 2004

2004 Range Rover HSE

Good shape D2's:
2004 Land Rover Discovery SE 4x4

2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II SE

Nice looking Lr3:
Land Rover LR3

The point here is with $8,500 in your wallet one would be better off either saving it up for one of the above listed vehicles or putting it down as down payment for one of the above mentioned vehicles! Regarding reliability I dare say Land Rover has improved greatly in the mid 2000's. I do believe they did away with engine and overheating problems, sensors are modern and more accurate, improved MPG (slightly) and they are larger, more horsepower and torque, better handling and superior road safety systems (Terrain Response, multiple cdl lockers on some models) etc.

But I do love my classic D2 and would not easily part with it. One day I dream of having it sit happily beside my Lr3/4 HD!

PS: The only D2 Id pay more than $6,500 for would be a 2004 Discovery G4!

and that is why you were not deleted as spam. It is the internet, a few people post on here when maybe they should sort their sockets and sock drawer. I stopped at one man car lot the other day that had a 2002, 92K, $8150. Too much for my fruit jar of quarters, but it is probably on some NADA list at that price. The asking price is where negotiation begins.

If this truck is so valuable because it's a Kalahari, why isn't the value diminished by the installation of all the non-stock parts like the uber-expensive lift and shocks?

I thought the value of such vehicles was only retained when they were kept stock and low-mileage.

As for the CDL, the ONLY way to really know is to crawl under the truck. you would be amazed at how many DIIs I've seen with CDLs that "shouldn't" have.

I've owned several DIIs (three, four maybe?). The most I've paid for one was IIRC $250 and my wife is driving one that was abandoned in the shop forecourt.

"I thought the value of such vehicles was only retained when they were kept stock and low-mileage" and matching numbers.
it how it always been no matter what vehicle even if the original engine was a POS, the money is in originality.

You're asking $8500, and supposedly people have offered you more than $8k, am I missing something? Why wouldn't you take the offer?

So the deal that RoxieMoxie got ($2000 for a D2 with 117 one owner miles and oem gasoline) was a good deal...
