I’m in Louisiana and have a 2011 LR4. Looks like I have a head gasket issue. Wouldn’t show on the test until after 1.5hrs. It’s been a great vehicle until this incident. Debating trading it in, fixing or replacing the motor. It’s in great shape. Any offers and/or suggestions on the best place to sell it as is?

My understanding is that is a huge job on that engine, 40ish hrs of work. I have seen a truck for sale with the heads off, abandoned at a shop by the owner because the bill was too big. New engine is $14k ish. Used engine is $7k ish. Hard choices on those trucks. Good looking truck, good luck with it.

 

HG job is around $8500, but it can be a gamble. Cant tell if the block is good until heads off.

 

It's a shame for such a good looking truck. I guess if you really loved it, you could shop around and see if you can get a better deal on the head gasket job, then keep it for a while. If it was mine I would just clear the codes and take it to CarMax for a cash offer.
