No, not normal. Its likely your center console is broken and this was the PO's solution to fix.

We came across this issue last week, PO epoxied the speed nut in place. Not cool.

Be very careful removing the rivets not to break off the top tabs if they aren't already broken.

We are working on a solution for this too but it will be a few weeks for parts to arrive. Basically a backing plate for around $10 or so that can be used when center console is completely shot.

In any case, we will help you get it sorted ASAP.

Ron,

Were you able get any further? If not please email/text me so I can see some pics and we'll get it worked out.

Default DII console

Yes, thank you. Got it installed and it looks great. All four of the tabs were already broken on the gear selector bezel causing it to just lay there, but otherwise fairly simple to install and a sleeker look.

sweet looking piece of gear. would order a "no heated seats" version for the D2, do you guys have that available? any idea of when such a thing would be available? would hate to spend the $$$ on the plate only to then need to spend extra on the switches. thanks!

Do you have leather interior? If so, any reason you DON'T want heated seats? Just add the switches, heating element and wiring harness are already there.

If you have an SD (dura-grain interior) or just don't want heated, then that's a different story. I haven't received pricing yet and splitting the orders so I don't know yet if we will have a non-heated seats version.

So, I just saw this and I'm very interested. But, my issue is the switch plate mounting. All of my tabs are broke and I don't have a way to mount anything in the area of the switches. My current switch cover is basically just sitting there. As long as it doesn't get bumped or moved, it won't go anywhere. I saw that you guys are working on a backing plate to fix this, any updates on that?

None yet. I have a solution but unable to fully test it yet. The solution is simple, just a plate/bracket that would sit "inside" the console such that when you tighten the screws, it would clamp down on the console around the edges rather than utilize the tabs.

I already made a test piece that works but am trying to make it so that it can be utilized in other potential situations before ordering material.

There are ways to fix this now (on your own) but we don't want to tell people "go to home depot, buy this, buy that, cut here, cut there".....we want the solution easy and affordable and accessible. Just buy one and install it.

If you are impatient, you could get two 6-32 nuts and install the switch plate to our plate and NOT using the center console top tabs. The top of the switch plate would be loose from the console then but frankly, not much. We've already done this locally with one shop that the demo truck had all four tabs broken. The switch plate fits pretty snug and is pretty rigid once in place. One of the benefits of being a one piece unit. But, we don't see this as a solution, only a temporary installation.

Stay tuned.

In fact, if you don't want to wait, I'll throw in two 6-32 nuts and send the kit with the extra nuts. Perhaps we should do this anyway. But again, until I make a final decision on what the best solution may be, I'm holding off.

Thanks for the feedback!! I'm pretty patient, so I think I'll wait on your fix. My current plate has been broken for several years, so it's not something that I'm just dying to fix this instant. I'll keep watching here to see when you guys work something out, then I'll look at ordering.

I installed my plate to find that the front window switches bind on the bottom of the cutout. So much so that they don't return to center when released. Ever seen this problem? All my mounting tabs are intact.
