Default Tailgate door question

I patched a leaky sunroof as my first DIY project on my disco ii, and finally got the carpet and interior back together this morning. I also cleaned the hinges of my tail gate door and noticed a pronounced snaping/rubbing sound from the hinge arm at the bottom of the door as it closes. The part making the sound is shown in the photo (sorry, photo is upside down) in case i am using the wrong terminology. It looks like it should have some kind of locking nut but i wasnt able to figure it out with the rave manual. the arm of this hinge (if that is what it is called) just lifts out with little to no effort. Am i missing something or do all tail gates make this sound?

Thanks,

Matt

My D1 door creaks as it opens. I convince myself it's saying, "hello!". I should probably lube it...

I had the same problem when I bought my Disco.... A circlip goes there, over the stud that holds the hinge arm. That will keep the hinge arm from popping off, but I still get a noise opening and closing the tail gate.

Hope that helps!

Andy
