Cash For Clunkers Snares Many a Land Rover
Jalopnik has posted on their site a list of EVERY CAR that was traded in under the Cash For Clunkers program.
Two of the 500 1993 Defender 110s were turned in. Seriously? people traded 35,000$ vehicles for a 4500$ cash rebate? WTH?
I blogged about it and my comments are there. I'm now even more pissed than I was about the program.

That makes me sick.
Obviously those people had no idea what they had and the dealer just wanted to make a sale.

This just proves that dealers are @ssholes who only want to make a buck.

There had to have been some shady stuff going on here. Maybe their was a badge from the 110 on a beat up Land Cruiser or something. I saw that "list of top 10 most exotic cars traded in" and couldn't believe my eyes. Why wouldn't the dealer just give them $4,500 cash and sell the cars/trucks for $25k+???
SHADY ****... Probably the mob cleaning their money thru the government or something.

I will never do business with a dealer that participated in "Cash for Clunkers", just like I will never consider buying a GM, or Chrysler vehicle.
How can we expect honesty and integrity, when we are rewarding laziness, and punishing production.
My back window says it all:
Molon Labe.
I will fill up with a smile, on my knees thanking God for the geniuses who get oil out of the ground in Saudi Arabia and deliver it to me as 93 octane gasoline in Michigan- EVEN if gas climbs above $20 per gallon. I will never complain about the price of gas.
They can have my gas-guzzling SUV when I run out of ammunition.
....
Whew... I sure am glad I don't watch the news. I get too fired up about this stuff.

this was clearly more of a case of capitalism then socialism,,,
and from a report i read many many many of the vehicles bought in the program were trucks and suv's. NOT hybrids and small cars.
some how there is still this belief that cars are the more important things in the world to people and the auto industry and dealers will screw you all they can.
i have vowed to never buy an american vehicle and i never will buy new from a major dealer. only small dealers who deal in lease trades and luxury vehicles.
friendlier, easier to deal with. no pressure. and not looking to bend you over a barrel as soon as you walk in the door.

I've got no problem with dealers making as much as they can, while still giving their customers the value they were looking for, but what do you mean by "this was clearly more of a case of capitalism then socialism"?
Here's what capitalism says about 'cash for clunkers':
People will STOP driving "gas guzzlers" when they can no longer afford it. Until then, the price of gas, and the fuel economy of trucks and SUVs really aren't a problem.
When you throw some subsidized trade-in offer into the equation, capitalism is no longer the rule.
I'm trying to think of something good to write on my window again... Something stating how proud I am to get 14mpg.
