Epic trip... ideas, advice?
Let me start by saying that changing the lower intake manifold gasket is a lot more intense then I ever thought it would be, and I must admit that when it came time to remove the fuel rails and injectors there was a moment when i thought to myself... Should I really be doing this??? But I pushed forward, and when everything was finely removed I could clearly see the root of all my poor Discos problems.
The intake ports on the heads when caked with a thick black build up of oil and whatnot, and the end caps were badly cracked, hard, and dry. After a bit of time spent with a toothbrush and a can of solvent I managed to get all the ports cleaned up as well as the manifold its self. Putting it back together was much easier then taking it apart, and in total took me about a day and a half to do.
The end result of that adventure left me with an engine that is preforming better in all aspects then it ever has, (well since I've owned it anyhow). The check engine light is now off, and the scanner is reading no fault codes.
I'm so happy!
Now, if I can only figure out whats making them damn 3 amigos always go off :P
I did join that brotherhood thing, it seems like a really cool deal, so big hugs for suggesting that one. I really hope I never have to call upon it, but it's nice to know it's there.
I would love to post some pics for you all to see when i get back, I'm sure we'll be taking lots! (on a side note after reviewing this post, and where I posted, I feel that I didn't really pick the best place for where this post was bound to go. I will take better care in the feature as to find a more germane location in regards to my subject content.) That said... Thank you for all your words of help, and luck granted.
