Default LED light bar vs HID

has anyone seen or used an LED light bar? I have read that they are as bright as HID's but pull less power. check out this one http://www.visionxoffroad.com/led/xmitter/ or this one http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/ind...t_detail&p=992

According to the one site you posted the link to the HID has advantages in just about ever category but bulb life. Start up power is the same on both HID and LED but HID drops down after start up. The advantage of LED that isn't listed is light output for the size of the light. Pretty LED wins there.

yeah the one company makes both HID and LED. another major difference is the bulb life, the LED lasts like 5,000 times longer than the HUD bulb... but then you can replace the HID bulb the LED you can't... I think the LED light bar sits between the HID and the Halogen for brightness.

I think where the LED has its disadvantage in brightness is purely size. It's really tough to compensate for a large reflector behind the bulb. I do like the look of the Xmitter LED lights. I'm thinking they're small enough yet bright enough to be great back up lights.

50,000 hours that is advertised for the life of the LED light will last longer than your vehicle. Think about how often you actually use auxiliary lights on a vehicle. I use the Lightforce on my Super Duty quite a bit during the winter here in Alaska but during the summer I never turn them on. We have about 3 months a year where it doesn't get dark enough to need headlights to drive, let alone any extra lights.
