Default Ugly Duckling Update

Since I finally managed to get the Ugly Duckling I've been working on it a little at time. Spent about a day and a half just going through the parts and other junk inside to see what I have, what's missing and what doesn't even go to this vehicle. I pulled the inspection cover off the transfer case to find no noticeable wear on the gears. I was pretty stoked about that. Today I disassembled one of the swivel ***** thinking it best to inspect the swivel ball and bearings. So far everything I have tinkered with has proven to be in remarkably good shape. It's quite obvious that the engine was the reason this particular vehicle was removed from service, and the engine is going to be replaced.

I haven't really done anything worthy of pictures yet. I keep working on it a little at a time as I find little bits of motivation. So far aside from a little cleaning I've only pulled the one hub/swivel ball assembly. It was kind of interesting to see the swivel ball disassembled but I still don't fully grasp how the axle shaft goes in. The rear is easy but the front has the u-joint for the steering that has me stumped.

It took a lot of negotiating but I got the approval to bring ugly duckling to the house. Once all my parts get here and it's at least running it won't be so bad. It will still be ugly for a while but at least it will be drivable ugly duckling.

Red hood with tire carrier. That is the brake pedal assembly sitting on the wing.

Finally cleaned the leaves and dirt out of the cargo area. Now just need to sort through remaining parts sitting on the sides.

Inside the t-case. Looks pretty good for 50 year olds. I hope the same can be said of me when I hit 50.
