Default Other 95 D1 - Loud ugly transmission noise

Hello,
So my other 95 D1 (not the one stuck in park). Is making this awful tranny noise when in gear. In fact it will not go in reverse at all... It will drive forward, but something is definitely wrong...

My wife started it up one day and the problem was there, we hadn't noticed anything leading up to this.

What should I do/Check first.

thanks

At the least, I would drain the fluid, replace with new and add a bottle of lucas. But I would strongly suggest dropping the pan and checking the inside of the pan and put on a new filter.

Is dropping the pan and installing the new filter very difficult?

I was going to ask how mechanical you are but your last post answered that.
How do you know it is the tranny, when does it happen?

Changing the filter means dropping the exhaust y-pipe and the crossmember. It's not hard, but many run into broken studs on the exhaust manifold and broke bolts for the crossmember.

1. Remove wife from driver's seat.
2. Do not allow that condition to repeat as it is often the cause of extensive new problems.
