Arrow When is it it overkill?

I spent $40 on grade 8 mil-spec ultra non corrosive 1/2" thick bolts and nuts to mount my ARB front bumper. i always like to go a little overboard and at what times does it make sense to cut corners if at all? some people say wires and plugs ( i disagree) some may say throw 87 octane in the truck who gives a **** ( i use only the finest in petrol products) ... what is it overkill and when does it just make sense?

I would prefer to do a job once, correctly, than do it again because I chose to save some money. Sometimes you have no choice and use what is available. I would say spending extra to make it pretty (bling) is over-kill. But strength, corrosion protection, or circuit protection are all worthy investments. I feel the same about fuel, it is not worth it for me to get cheap.

Shoot, it's never over-kill if it's something you want to keep for a long time.

....and ARB front bumper huh?? LUCKY!

Do it right the first time and all you'll be writing on here is advice not questions about broke this and that. I've always been about spending a little more up front for a better quality product. Might as well...

i bought a quart of por-15 and have been piling coat after coat on the ARB. i want it to last forever. if i like the way the por-15 holds up i might just do my whole truck in it. get a gallon or two and just spray away.

Good plan...where'd you get it, I've had a helluva time tracking some down out here?

X2

I didn't so much go cheap at first, I just had a lot to fix and bought some "kits" that included a lot of aftermarket gaskets and such. You learn the hard way I guess. When I was building custom vehicles I always used top of the line, I treated the Rover more like a toy and didn't take it seriously. Now I spend the extra for top quality parts and supplies. It has been a champ and the only issues I have had were with the parts I skimped on. Use quality parts or grin and live with the downtime.

you can't beat Amazon's prices and their free shipping makes it a no brainer. I don't have many hardware/tool/farm stores near me so every other week i have an order in to Amazon, McCaster Carr or Harbor Frieght.
