Looking for some help. I have a work colleague in Belgium who has just purchased a 1963 Landrover Series IIa 88 inch Basic from a seller in Italy.
He is looking into researching more of the history of the vehicle; in particular the first date of registration in the UK.
The vehicle shipped from the UK to Italy in 1977 and was then converted from right hand to left hand drive. It is currently a left hand drive.
He received also a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certified Copy of a Factory Record for the vehicle.
The vehicle has a Car Chassis Number but no record of the original registration number from the UK
The vehicle date of build on the certificate is 11 July 1963 and a date of despatch of 18 July 1963. The destination was to a dealer; Stevens Brothers ( Fleet) Fleet, Hampshire.
the DVLA site always asks for the UK vehicle reg number, but of course There isn’t one on the certificate.
Would greatly appreciate any advice or help to source the information on the vehicle’s history.

 

Is it possible for a garage to do an HPI check against the chassis number?

Find out where the Hampshire registration archives are. If they recorded both reg mark and chassis nber then some in depth trawling of the registration books should find it. (Note, not all reg authorities recorded the chassis number)
