Default Help with potential Series II purchase

Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to world of Series Land Rovers.

I have been looking for a Series I or II for a few weeks now and I have found one that I like and fits my budget, but I could use your help to make sure I don't end up buying the wrong one. I haven't looked at the car in person and I am attaching the pictures I have. I need to know what to look for when I see it in person in a couple of weeks.

It is a 1959 CKD that was delivered to Mexico when new (the car is still in Mexico). Serial Number 145900100, original engine number was 151901153, current engine number 151111833. I can see a number of things wrong, and am sure there are a lot more that I haven't seen. So please point out everything that is not correct. My plan is to buy it and enjoy it and at the same time correct all or most of what is incorrect with the goal of finishing with a very correct Series II. What do I see incorrect:
  • It doesn't have its original engine, instead it has a '61 model engine. That I'd have to live with, at least I believe it exactly the same as the one it came with
  • The whole air filter canister from the carburetor out. Is this easy to source?
  • Not sure if that is the correct carburetor
  • The whole electrical wiring worries me, the voltage regulator and the fuse boxes that should be in the firewall are gone
  • The roof also worries me. I don't believe this is a Station Wagon, and that removable roof doesn't look original. If this is the case, I might want to revert to a canvas roof, but all the structure is missing. Is it easy to find?
  • The footwells are not original, but I believe those are just screwed down and thus should be easy to replace?
  • Wiper system is missing
  • The ***** on top of the instrument panel seem incorrect
  • The horn button is incorrect
  • The upholstery is probably incorrect, and the rear seats don't have seat backs, should they be there?
  • The brake fluid canister is incorrect, but that one is easy I'd say
This is the list I have come up with from the pictures I have. Again, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again

Henry

You’re right about the mods. They look to be nicely done but if you want to end up with a “correct “ LR maybe you should look for one that needs restoration instead of one that has been restored but not “correctly”.

Default Your "Mexican cutie"

Hello Henry. My name is Eric, and I have a 1970 S2A 88" Sta. Wag. From the looks of it the car looks very clean, although not technically correct. FYI neither is mine..S2A, S3 steering, S2 horn stalk.
Frankenrover. I think it depends on the price, of course. Some restos are coming from South America as well. No voltage regulator? Was it an alternator conversion (as is mine)?
I'd like to know how you made out.

Hi Eric,

I decided not to purchase it, the price wasn't right. It hasn't sold, so I might go back with an offer

Thanks

Default Series2

Looks good. As long as you have a solid Chassis & bulkhead everything else can be sorted relatively easily & parts are readily available. Incidentally your Solex carb was the original fitting, most have been replaced by Webber’s or similar. If the price is right I’d go for it.
