Default How to remove Bearing housing from gearbox casing

Gday all. First time post and first gearbox rebuild for my 2a.

why, dodgy Layshaft bearing needs replacing so whilst there I’m doing the lot.

my problem is: for the life of me I can’t remove the main shaft bearing housing from the casing. I’ve removed the main shaft and circlip. I can heat the case to the point where the housing spins freely and moves up and down by around 3mm but there seems to be a lip on both sides that prevents it pushing through! I’ve even sworn at it and also cuddled it but no luck.

what am I missing? It’s a suffix a gearbox, ex military 88 2a.

I realize there’s a peg somewhere but cant find it and cant feel it when I spin the housing which I can do by hand when warm.

One other thing is the oil seal appears to have been loctited in place into the bearing housing and won’t budge either. Are the two problems related?

advice on both greatly appreciated.
