Default US Emission Label sticker

Am in California and just bought a '69 88 IIa in New Mexico. In order to register it in CA I am told they will need to see the US Emissions Label attached to the vehicle. NM has no similar emissions requirements. Assuming it is no longer on the vehicle, and Land Rover cannot supply one, can anyone supply a picture and tell me where this would be located on the vehicle? Also, has anyone had to go through this process? I figured since it was a '69 and CA does not require smog checks for vehicles '75 and older there would be no smog requirement. Thanks.

I’m pretty sure there was never an emissions sticker on a 1969 LR.

Go to a different DMV office. This one is confused.

Called the DMV in Sacramento and was told they would look for the sticker when registering. Am hoping when I actually go down to do the paperwork it will be a non-issue. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

From what I could find online, all cars from '65 on required the sticker, foreign and domestic. Back then think it consisted of indicating the proper ignition timing.

Default Is emission label

I didn’t have this requirement when I registered my ‘69 88 but it was a California car originally. I don’t see any smog equipment but here’s the sticker.

Label

Thanks! Where are those located? It's only a potential problem due it being an out of state vehicle. If it was already registered here, no problem. The DMV employee in Sacramento told me someone would visibly verify and, if the sticker was no longer present, I would need to get something from Land Rover. Ridiculous given there's no smog equipment.

It’s on the shelf between the radiator and the radiator grill, driver’s side.

I think you're making this difficult on yourself by communicating with Sac. Out of state registrations require VIN verification (usually done by appt at DMV office by"trained" personnel-- but they will be confused by the VIN location because "trained" means 'modern car windshield VIN reading,' or can be done by any peace officer... like your local sheriff, etc.). You may want to consider using a 3rd party title service. They are all over CA, and know all the shortcuts to handing things expeditiously. I've used one several times for "difficult" transactions, and he handled them with zero complications... most of them have special fast lanes during non-public hours where they handle dozens of customers at one sitting. My guy retired last year, otherwise I'd send you to him. That sticker will only be an issue if you poke the bear.

/2 cents from someone who has done this dozens of times with CA DMV, from imported vehicles, to 1930's vehicles with limited documentation, and everything in between.
