Importing 1984 110 Canada to US... Need practical advice ASAP!
Hi all. First post and pretty new to the subject matter. I have committed to buying a 25+ year old 110 out of Canada. My wish is to import it to the US.
Right now my head's spinning with all the hoops and regulations described here and elsewhere. But I've been told, and this site seems to confirm, that if it's more than 25 years old, the US lets it in without a mountain of hassle, red tape and expense.
I'm hoping folks here can confirm the 25-year exemption, and also provide any practical experience about how the whole process works and what I can expect.
Thanks very much. This looks to be a great, and very active site. I hope to become a regular follower.

DP: I can confirm that if the Rover is 25 years old you can definitely register it in the States. I have an 84 110 RHD. Don't know a lot about the import procedure though sorry about that. Not positive but I have heard that it must have the original engine.
US department of trans has a webpage devoted to this. I think customs does also. When I was looking at importing a diesel landcruiser I saw some of the reputable import websites have link to this info..
here you go - 25 year is OK, as are some other variations (parts, disassembled, etc.)
see Importation and Certification FAQ's Directory--All Vehicles
contains this and much more:
A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS. Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7 Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation. If you wish to see that form, you may download a copy from our website at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import. You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture. If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago. Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.
