Yes! Its a jeep. Got its high milage running parts for my Discos. 😀

 

Unlike the Rover V8, the 4.0 in line 6 is indestructible. That unibody? Notsomuch.

 

Been thinking about buying a 4.0 Cherokee as a secondary vehicle in case the LR wont start for whatever reason. I actually test drove a Cherokee 2.5 TD XJ but the one I test drove was a piece of crap with blown turbo so that did not convince me and I ended up with D2. Cherokee also felt a bit cramped. Cherokees here in Finland are more common in the market and cheaper than Discos though and the 4.0 seems like a high mileage engine. Land Cruisers are nice but the prices are laughable.

 

The Jeep 4.0 has a very long history going back to a bit of a different iteration all the way back to the Jeep CJ.

2 or 3 hundred thousand miles are completely normal for them with nothing other than oil changes. It's a torque monster and weighs as much as a bulldozer engine. But like I said, the bodies will rust away long before the drivetrain tanks. The Dana 30 and 35 axles also have a couple issues, but generally are hammers for reliability as well.

Like Saakki mentioned, the interior is significantly more cramped than a Disco. The trim in the interior is also not quite as refined. However, if you find a rust free example, most likely it would never let you down. The ZJ is another decent choice that is in many regards just a slightly larger machine with the exact same drivetrain.

Yes, I've been into Jeeps for a long time and only recently started feeding my crackhead like desire for Land Rovers....

find a way to lower the D2 body onto the Jeep setup. good to go!!!!
