See pic. I have the retainer between the shock and spring. The only other way I could see it going in is the retainer on top of the shock.

Also, the retainers came with allen bolts and locknuts, but the axle already has a captive nut, so I choose to use the original bolts (with no nut)?

 

Thats how I would have installed them. It might come with that hardware for using them on a D1 because I think their kit fits both D1 & D2.

 

Are you sure the spring is on right? Doesn't seem right, looks upside down.

The flat side is on top, so I'm pretty sure I have it right. And the end part of the spring fits into the recess on the inner side of the spring mount. The axle is hanging pretty loose there, so maybe thats why it looks off.

It wasn't easy to get the darn thing lined up. Tore up the rubber isolator a bit. Had to use a pry bar to align it, and then jack up the axle at the same time. The shock does not seem to sit straight up and down, the bottom bushing is angled a tad.

 

Normally, flat side goes down.

i also had to use a spring compressor, which I wasn't expecting. Even with the axle fully dropped and resting on the crossmember. These are TF HD springs
