The flat side is on top, so I'm pretty sure I have it right. And the end part of the spring fits into the recess on the inner side of the spring mount. The axle is hanging pretty loose there, so maybe thats why it looks off.
It wasn't easy to get the darn thing lined up. Tore up the rubber isolator a bit. Had to use a pry bar to align it, and then jack up the axle at the same time. The shock does not seem to sit straight up and down, the bottom bushing is angled a tad.

i also had to use a spring compressor, which I wasn't expecting. Even with the axle fully dropped and resting on the crossmember. These are TF HD springs
