Get 2 or 3 new tires w/ 1 good spare + tire plug kit and compressor?

Just my two cents: I ran the Cooper Discoverers in Africa and had too many scrapes, cuts and a puncture or two. I would never buy the Coopers again. I've had the same bad luck with Wranglers at work here in the Rocky Mountains. I only run BFGs on my personal rigs and have never had an issue with them. They are super tough and are on all 8 of my 4x4s.

Personally, I would mount the spare on the rear bumper just like the picture in this post or if you had to, on the hood. There's just not enough air flow up front with a large tire for a vehicle that is as sensitive to overheating. Then again, you could always add an additional cooling fan.

Thanks to all of you for your advice and steering me clear of my not so well thought out plan.
Will be carrying a second spare on the roof, a compressor and a tire plug kit.
I really appreciate the advice and your experience.

Happy Trails to you all,

Bill

I'm going to politely disagree with the tail end of this statement.

Adding another cooling fan to a system, where diminished air flow is the issue...will not cure anything. Example, take a house box fan, place a piece of cardboard partially in front of fan, turn it on low...you'll have minimial air flow. Turn the fan on high, still minimial air flow. It's all about volume.

Also, good point about sidewall damage, and the need for two spare tires...a plug kit will only come in handy for thread punctures.

Brian.
