Dude, there are tons around here if you are willing to wait and monitor all the So Cal craigslist areas. Probably a good half-dozen pop up every month, in varying states of repair and ALL So Cal trucks.
The one above certainly isn't in the same cosmetic state as the truck in Laguna, and has a lot more miles, but the $14k savings goes along way in powder and lipstick (and more important stuff like lifts, lockers, safari racks, etc).
I bought mine with 105k miles in January for $2,400 off craigslist out in Riverside. Probably have another $6k in it total.

I am wanting to do something different...I want the truck as stock as possible visually. I am not going to put new bumpers, matte hood, etc on it. That requires a truck that is cosmetically very good...which has been difficult up to now!

If you look at the last photo, that's what the truck looked like when i bought it. 100% stock, no dings or chips or faded paint. Had a cracked rear bumper (most do). Zero modifications. Wheels were all original, including spare. The only things I initially added to it were a headliner, repair to the driver's seat cushion, and new tires. Had I left it at that, it would have been 100% stock, 105k miles, all in for $3,500 (+/- for stock tires instead of the LT's I put on it).
My only point was that you can easily get a truck in fantastic shape, low miles (105k at 17 years old is only 6k per year) and STILL significantly modify it for less than half what that guy in Laguna wants.
I actually really like a near stock truck with a moderate lift. Classy AND functional.
Craigslist might be a little thin right now, but when I was looking in January, there were a solid 20+ trucks available when I included all the areas from SD to to Ventura, including the IE. it's cyclical.

Point taken...I guess I'm just a little frustrated that I can't find THAT TRUCK.
If you find a truck in good knick, but not running, steal it for $500 and use your money to drop in a Turner 4.6 long block or Toddco 5.0 liter long block. You'll have a more reliable truck with a brand new engine. A low mile original engine is not the most desirable. You want an engine with iron flanged liners, upgraded cams etc.
Or maybe Trailhead 4x4 could source a good one and drop in an ls1 for you. Then you fly to Ohio, and drive home to break it in.
