Should you be scared? Yes.
So 200K 04 Land Rover at 6.9K vs 2012 Transit Connect with 0K on it at 25K I'd take the Land Rover any day. Even if it something did go wrong at least it looks damn nice sitting there with it's Vienna Green paint & Tundra interior lol.
Best looking Transit Connect pic I've ever seen. They all need a special place to burn in hell....

As someone who lived in NE, I'd stay away from any car from that region. Basically, it will become a rust bucket. Had this car been a true CA car, I'd be all over it. At this point Discos are getting old and getting a car with interior/exterior in near mint condition is worth it. You'll probably replace the rest of the mechanical stuff anyway.

In all seriousness, I see more and more threads about ppl wanting to buy Discos, do you guys think they are ever going to be like FJ60s? I heard you could buy those for a grand 5-10 years ago

Interior jobs are expensive when done professionally. I OCD on things and I'd basically gut the interior of this car and replace it. Major $. Then you have to replace all the usual mechanical stuff and that's another several grand just in parts plus your time. In the end, you'll end up paying with a combination of time and money to get this vehicle back to decent shape. Is it worth it?

1. Complete neglected cards beat to crap and sold at your friendly shady corner dealer. If you love cars with sagging suspensions and odd-looking sales guys, you're covered.
2. "Barely wheeled" specimen that have clearly seen a ton of trails. Modified and beat on a regular basis, these cars now are eager to bring you a new set of problems you did not know you had or needed. These vehicles typically come from wheeling enthusiasts ready to move on to something else.
3. Well-cared for family cars that may have been spare vehicles of folks with means. These cars will have plenty of records and just as much life left. Unfortunately, they are hard to find. There is a guy in SF Bay area that is trying to sell his unmodified, stock, '04 Disco in seemingly excellent shape for $14.7K.
Personally, I favor cars in the third category, but finding one at a right price is not easy.
