So you have Loose Steering, Death Wobble?
#21
As amazing as this sounds... I started experiencing the Death Wobble on the way to work, when driving at around 65 mph and going under a certain bridge on the highway. If I increased speed, or decreased speed it wouldn't happen. I finally figured out that my tire pressure was set to about 44 PSI when I had some slightly larger tires installed. Dropped pressure down to 32 and problem went away.
Of course this was after I replaced a bunch of stuff in the front end, reset bearing preloads, etc.

The myriad of checks....
Went through the list...tightened everything, checked everything, and still had the apocalyptic death wobble. Finally decided to replace my OME steering stabilizer with a TerraFirma, and now it's 90% fixed! I'm going to go ahead and put on all new ball joints, then replace the heim joints in my equipe steering setup. After that, well there isn't much else I can do. For now, I'm happy with a 90% solution...now if I can just get it to stop leaking.....

My list went like this to finally get my death wobble to go away:
- New front wheel bearings (the old ones saw a bunch of use and abuse)
- Rebuilt swivels. Tore down the outers to just the knuckle and swivel, and they did not move smoothly. One was worse than the other, where it was herky-jerky while moving it.
- At least two tie rod ends/ball joints replaced
- Adjustable panhard with poly bushings installed. Over the years I used different bushings (rubber and poly) in the stock panhard on 3" lift... and finally decided to get an adjustable.
