Wheels and tires on the Disco, with a quick trip to the dirt! Just moved back to SoCal so have to do some research on trails in the area. Next up is getting the front runner rack on and going to swap the lug nuts out with black ones to match the wheels.

With T-minus seven days to beach vacation, my son and I mounted the FrontRunner 2.0 meter Easy-Out awning.

Is it July 28th yet?

Nice size when stowed.
From in front.
The Gazelle is running.

Mike,
How did the Disco do on the beach? How did you like the awning? Planning our first trip out in the Sierras in a few weeks, excited to get the Disco out on the trails. Also I think I found you on instagram so will look forward to keeping up with you that way as well.

The Disco did great. Martha’s Vineyard has very soft sand, deep in some places. Got a bit bogged down a couple of times but it always made it forward. It was much smoother than my son’s 1983 LR 110.

The awning is great. It’s a two person job to set up, but it works well. My kids said they’d either want a bigger one or Front Runner’s trick movable mount.

I’m 964_in_NY on Instagram. You’ll see lots of Porsche stuff with the Disco mixed in. Say hi there so I follow you too.

Got stopped by the Director of Product Development for JLR who asked to take a picture of the truck. He invited my to their HQ in New Jersey, so I’ll be taking him up on that offer. Said there’s a nice software update coming soon.

That is awesome! Excited to hear what you learn, if I only lived near I would join you on said trip to JLR! I sent you a note on Instagram, asked about your 964 as well. I just created another handle to post Disco pics along with other travel/adventure related posts. Photo is incredible, love the 110. I am a big fan of the D90 and hopefully at some point will own one!

I am going on MV in September, was considering getting OSV permit to visit Cape Poge and Norton Beach, now it is even more tempting. On the other side I still have F1 Eagle tires and I am afraid how these will behave in deep sand. I don't want to end up on Chadtucket.

Default MV sand

I’m not sure how those tires will do in soft sand. Are they 20 inch? My guess is if you aired them down to 15, you’ll be OK. I think the most important thing is to be able to float.

What I would do is carry one recovery strap and some MaxxTrax-like boards. That way you can try and get yourself unstuck, and if you need help you’ll have everything there but the other vehicle. The trustees are really capable and will help you out if some random stranger doesn’t.
