Talking Busted a load over the new 2014 "Discovery"

I'm not 100% thrilled with the updated look of the headlights but the Discovery badge on the hood and the roof rails back where they belong makes me very happy indeed. Plus its supercharged so I can only drew! I would not mind having one........ along with a 110 5 door and my future fully built D2! haha

I've been driving nothing but Land Rovers since I bought my first one in '75, almost 40 years ago. But I've never had an orgasm because of one.
Sigh, I guess I'm not the Land Rover fanatic I thought I was.

40+ years of wrenching on Land Rovers will do that to you, kinda lower the sex drive! Hahahaha Just kidding.

So where on earth did Land Rover come into your life? What made you decide "nothing but Land Rover" for the past 40 years? Honestly I think you could start an interesting thread on why you own and have continued to own these vehicles for as long as you have. Your insight and experience is highly sought after and misunderstood. So please share.

They made extended front roof rails for the LR3/LR4 too.

Yes but they rarely come installed off the assembly line. In my opinion these are the trademarks of the Discovery:

- Roof rails
- Alpine windows
- Sunroofs
- "Discovery" badge
- Full size spare
- Spare mounted on rear cargo door
- Stepped Roof
- Boxy and spacious

Most of the above traits are traced back to the original Series models save the sun roofs and the spare tire was on the hood but still. The roofline on the LR3/4 is also not as pronounced as it was on the first 2 generations.... But again these are solely my opinion. Discovery is my favorite model followed by the Defender 130. I hate to see the things that made these vehicles so distinctive thrown away on these newer trucks. I do like the newer models alot and would like to get one, but Im not as big a fan on the exterior looks as I am for the older models.

You cannot be sure that one pre-prod model is going to be how they all are delivered though.

In many markets, roof rails were optional at time of order on D1 and D2, especially base models. Even in the US the discovery XD didn't come with them, because it came with an SD rack.

Of your list the only things the d3 and d4 are missing are the alpine windows and rear mounted spare. Everything else was available.

Many D1 and D2 don't have sunroofs. If I could have found a D3 without one, I would have tried to buy it instead.

You do realize that they are only LR3/4 in the US? Everywhere else in the world they are still called Discovery.
DI & DII's had such a bad reputation in the US that Land Rover was hoping people here were too stupid to realize they were just new Discovery models.

LR3 does not commonly come with full size spare unless its the HD package, at least thats what Ive been told. and yes I realize that they only call it the LR3 in the US. The roof rails just add character to the Disco, so much that the vehicle looks like its missing something when they are not fitted.

these are my own comments and do not reflect any company that I work for.

The new 2014 LR4's look sharp but they are missing something...... The new interior with the rise up shifter is sharp but try and look for the low box.... All the ones that i have seen have Not come with it and I think this is a great shame as the LR4 is Land Rover's work horse in the US. CAFE standards have come in to play with the V6 s/c, it get a whole 1pmg over the V8 but in all honesty the V8 is better with a vehicle this big and heavy. Having drove it I find the V6 s/c not as quick as the V8 and seems to stuggle at times. Now I will admit that this is based mainly on surface streets and not towing but still find it lacking. The LR4 is a great car and given the chanve I might even trade my Disco 2 for one but NOT with the V6 s/c....
