If you really look at the comparison pics between the Discovery 2 and the LR4 you can see the body designs are strikingly similar. It looks like the LR4 takes the details of the 04 Discovery and blends them together. I think LR realized the Discovery 2 has a timeless body design.

I absolutely agree with you, that's why I made a side by side comparison of the 04 D2 and the LR4. The only thing the LR4 is missing is the trade mark roof rails!

And the spare tire hanging off the back.

Of course! How could I forget that!!!

Where exactly did they mount the spare anyway? Beneath the rear end? I also have heard that the LR4 lost does not have the command position seating like the D1 and D2, I've heard that you sit lower down and are more sunken into the seats on the new Disco's....... I'll stick with the 2004 D2¡

So the LR4 does have roof rails similar to that of the D2 (Though they set me back about $900 for the extended roof rails). I got them because they looked better than the standard "short" rails. Check the photos I have attached of my ride for a closer look.

As it relates to seating position, since I own a D1 and an LR4, I can tell you a few things. First off, the seating in the LR4 is incredible. Extremely comfortable and the seats have a wide range of motion. You can position the drivers seat to give you a very commanding view and see each corner of the front of the vehicle. There is nothing smooshy or soft about the seats. The front window on the LR4 is also much bigger than the D1, so the stoplights are not blocked by the headliner/visor. that said, the seating is not exactly the same, but it is much closer than other folks would suggest. I would recommend you to go to your local dealer and sit in one - make sure the battery is charged so you can operate the seats.

Yes the newer Discoveries may have roof rails, but they are embedded into the roof and are less pronounced in contrast to the D1/D2 models. And I had no doubt that the windscreen of your LR4 is larger than the windscreen of the D1, BUT did you know that the windscreen in the D2 is larger than the screen on the D1?

And I was only relating to a few posts I've seen on here from other LR4 owners, who noted that the command position seating is more signifigant in the D2 vs the LR4 which is slightly more suken in. But I've never owned nor drove the LR3/LR4 so I can't say with certainly on this matter.
